The fluted hem is a flirty and fresh way to update the plain old fitted skirt, plus this look is ultra-flattering on most body types.  It’s a fitted skirt that’s slim along the waist and hips, with a fluted flare type ruffle at the hem line. This year we saw fluted hems on Solange Knowles, Jennifer Connelly and Chloe Moretz, all these ladies rocked unique renditions of the fluted hem on both skirts and dresses. This trend is great for both the office and for play, because it’s got enough structure for the professional atmosphere and enough flirty-ness for a fun night out.

Office Wear

For the office we suggest wearing a black fluted skirt that stops just below the knees, this type of skirt will flatter your figure in an office appropriate way. As for a blouse you could opt of a chic bow blouse or keep it simple with a tailored button down.  Keep the shoes simple, black or nude pumps would be perfect, as opposed to strappy sandals which would make the outfit look a little to “cha cha” for work. Since this look has an retro vibe, why not style your hair in sophisticated pinned back curls, this will give your look a Mad Men type feel.

Night Wear

For night time we love a mini dress with a lightly fluted hem line, nothing too ruffle-ish, just enough to add a  little bit of movement and softness.  A fluted hem mini dress is a great look for date night or an evening with the girls, just remember to do a twirl test before you leave the house. Since a fluted hem line adds more movement to the bottom of your dress you’ll want to make sure that none of that potential movement will shows off any unwanted areas while you’re dancing or walking through out the night.
