Recently there’s been quite a lot of talk about some schools imposing a ban on sleeveless dresses during prom, and while we love a great strapless dress there are still plenty of equally fashionable and chic prom dresses options that include sleeves. In fact we noticed a sleeved dress trend during this year’s award season particularly on the Golden Globes red carpet, where we saw celebrity fashion icons like Nicole Richie, Jennifer Lopez and Eva Longoria all wearing not only sleeved gowns but long sleeved gowns at that, and each of them looked polished, classy and sexy. Whether you’re attending a prom where strapless dresses aren’t an option or you just prefer the classic and sophisticated look of a sleeved dress, there are tons of stylish prom dress options to choose from.

As far as sleeved gowns are concerned there are obliviously two big divisions, short and long sleeved dresses.  In terms of short sleeved dresses we love sleeves that are a little embellishment, like sequin or sheer lace cap sleeves.  In terms of long sleeved dresses, we love fitted sleeves that reach just below the wrists and elongate the look of the arms as well as flirty long sleeved cocktail dresses. Just because a dress has sleeves doesn’t mean it has to be boring, in fact it is quite the opposites. Because sleeved dresses tend to be understated and modestly cut, they can handle bright colors, hordes of sequins and bold patterns without looking overly busy.

Accessorizing a Sleeved Prom Dress
Not only are sleeved prom dresses super chic but they are among the easiest dress styles to accessories, consider wearing items like:

  • Metallic Clutch
  • Long Elegant Drop Earrings
  • A singular pendent necklace ( if the dress has a v-neck)
  • Statement Rings
