Peplum accented waist lines have been everywhere over the past year. We saw a sea of peplums on the red carpet during award season worn by some of Hollywood’s biggest fashion icons like, Mila Kunis, Zoe Saldana, Charlize Theron, Blake Lively, Emma Stone, Michelle Williams, Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian.  What makes the peplum so attractive is its ability to enhance a gowns sophistication level while adding a feminine flirty touch.  If you want your prom look to be statuesque, classic and perfectly polished then a peplum dress is definitely the way to go.  Not only are peplums super chic, but these waist cinching ruffles also help to enhance an hour glass figure by creating the illusion of a smaller waist.

As far as peplum styles go there are plenty to choose from, you could opt for the high-low peplum which tends to have more movement and lay closer to the body. If you happen to find a peplum dress that you love, however you want the high-lo effect, a good tailor can most likely make that happen with a few swift snips.  Another type of peplum that we love is structured peplums, these tend to be made of stiffer fabric and add a bold modern architectural quality to a gown.   If you’re a little shy about rocking a peplum dress at prom, consider opting for a dress in a dark monochromatic style, this will cause the peplum to blend into the dress a little, so you’ll still have all the benefits of a peplum accented waist in a more understated way.
