This year a chic and more refined version of classic plaid is making a comeback on the runway.  This Scottish staple was seen at the shows of Marc Jacobs, Rachel Comey, Jill Sander and House of Holland. For summer, plaids has a bright, light color palette and hints of femininity like sheerness and shimmer. Summer plaid is all about a vintage crisp look, think Grace Kelly area.  Autumn plaid however, is going in quite another direction, in autumn we have seen plaid get edgier with the addition of leather, structured silhouettes and a military inspired vibe. Over all the autumn plaid is defiantly offering up a more modern interpretation of this Celtic pattern.  But no matter if you decided to rock plaid in the summer or in fall, you’ll be wearing one of the latest trend.

For a casual summer outfit pair a mint and orange plaid shirt with dark wash skinny jeans. Throw on a fedora; if you think you can rock one, it makes for a great accessory.  This look a little grunge meets sweet and we like that combination.  For a fall plaid outfit we recommend pairing a fitted brown pencil skirt with a sand colored top and green plaid blazer.  The brown, green and sand are all perfect shades for fall, and the plaid adds a touch of military polished-ness.

Try The Trend Tips

Plaid is an excellent addition to any woman’s wardrobe, for both fall and summer. Keep these tips in mind so that you can rock the trend any time of year.

Keep in mind your fabric choice when the weather is warm, opt for silk, chiffon or other sheer fabric, this will help you beat the heat.

Layering with plaid is another great way to wear it, we love the look of a plaid button down peeking out underneath a cute sweater.
