If there’s something we’ve learned throughout the years (also from Pinterest) it’s that a lot of the most effective beauty fixes come from the kitchen. Papaya for exfoliating enzymes, honey for anti-bacterial properties, and our most recent obsession, apple cider vinegar for a lot of things.

This beauty elixir is made from apples mixed with yeast and good bacteria and costs around 4 bucks at the grocery store so giving it a try is a must. See what benefits you can reap from this household item:

Shiny hair. Apple cider vinegar can make your hair shiny due to the fact that it removes shampoo residues from your hair. Use ½ cup for short hair and 1 cup for long hair and use it as a mask for about 10 minutes. Follow with your usual shampoo and conditioner and watch your hair shine.

Soothe sun burn. If you’ve gone on a holiday and your skin is still suffering from excessive sun exposure, put 1 cup of ACV into a bath. The vinegar helps even out your skin’s pH balance.

Bad breath. ACV is a natural mouthwash as it has its acid and minerals work as antibacterial and help kill naturally the bacteria that causes bad breath. Simply mix ½ tbsp. of ACV with 1 tbsp. of baking soda and brush the paste on your teeth.

Get rid of breakouts. Dab ACV on your spots after your regular nighttime skincare routine. The malic acid in the vinegar is an antibacterial and the amino acids can balance hydration to sooth the spot.

Itchy scalp. Because of the winter, your scalp can feel itchy at times even if you condition properly. To sooth the itch, mix ½ cup of ACV with ½ of water and let it sit in your hair. Rinse and follow with conditioner. To see results, do this a few times a week.
