ESSENCE holds first Best In Black Fashion Awards
Nothing captures the black culture quite like ESSENCE Magazine. And on the biggest night in black fashion, the ESSENCE Best in Black Fashion Awards celebrates some of the best dressed in the world of fashion and beauty. But ESSENCE Magazine isn’t new.
In fact, it is one of the oldest magazines focusing on black culture and style. The magazine features some of the most influential people in black culture and is the epitome of the overall black experience.
The ESSENCE Magazine Best in Black Fashion Awards is an event that focuses solely on black fashion. The celebration, which was hosted by none other than Bevy Smith, featured some of the best in their field, designers, entertainers, photographers, and stylists.
So what is it really like to be black and on the cutting edge of fashion? “Being black in fashion just means being unapologetically yourself and being creative,” stated one of the attendees at the inaugural event.
Some of the winners included Aminah Abdul Jillil for the accessory designer of the year and Fe Noel for the designer of the year. Aminah Abdul Jillil is known or some of the newest and nicest flip flops and shoes available today and Fe Noel has not only made some o the most influential designs but is also using her fashion line to empower and change the narrative or black women.
