The cold weather can bring out the worst in people—and their skin is included. Harsh winds and frigid temperatures dry out the skin making it look dull and dehydrated so it’s important to take the extra step in making your skin glow. While the winter weather can make us feel lazy and wanting to cut our skincare time short, the one step you shouldn’t skip is exfoliating.

Physical and chemical exfoliation gets rid of the dead skin cells that sit on your skin due to constantly going from cold to hot environments. Dead skin cells make your skin look flakey and can even make you look older so it’s important to remove them to reveal brighter and younger looking skin. During the warmer weather, you should exfoliate 1~2 times a week but during the winter, you should double that amount especially if you don’t use a cleansing brush.

Not quite sure which exfoliators you should be using? Here are some of our favorites:

Skinfood Black Sugar Mask Wash Off, $10. If you’re not into Korean skincare yet, let this cute little exfoliator be your introduction. Because it’s a sugar based exfoliator, it does an amazing job at polishing the skin without being abrasive as the sugar dissolves pretty quickly. Although it’s not readily available to most of us (unless you’re near a K-Town), you find easily find it online.

Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Peel Original Formula, $16-$148. This antiaging facial peel is great for giving your skin that glow it needs during the winter. Not only does it exfoliate, it also helps reduce the size of pores, wrinkles, and fine lines as well revealing a more even skintone. This product also works great on sensitive skins.

Kate Somerville ExfoliKate® Intensive Exfoliating Treatment, $22-$175. Can’t decide whether you want a physical exfoliator or a chemical one? Well now you don’t have to. This exfoliator has beads and has fruit-derived enzymes that helps get rid of dead skin cells and clarify the skin as well.
