Halle Berry reveals the truth about the pageant world

In 1986, Halle Berry became the first African-American woman to win the crown of Miss USA. She was following up a win of Miss Ohio, and while the title is one to be excited about, Halle has admitted that her experience in the pageant world was less than ideal.

Recently starring in John Wick: Chapter 3, Halle is no stranger to the dark side of Hollywood. She has been around long enough to see some of the worst of it, but she doesn’t feel she came in unprepared. The ruthless side of pageantry was something she was already familiar with, as her own experience in that industry has been described as “vicious.”

One of the crimes of pageantry that Halle Berry witness herself was that of beauty queens turning on each other. One woman cut off the heel of another contestant’s shoe to purposefully make her fall, and Halle witnessed all of it. So when she entered Hollywood and saw the ways people backstabbed each other, it appears that she was already watching her own back to avoid any mishaps like those she experienced in the Miss USA pageant.
