Milan Fashion Week is held twice each year and is part of the global “Big Four fashion weeks”, the others being Paris Fashion Week, London Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week. Milan fashion week is where some of the world’s top designers are showcasing their autumn and winter collections. Italian designers took the opportunity to dominate – the runway was very much theirs. First Prada showcased utilitarian designs with a theme of control. Next Dolce and Gabbana – the fashion house has never shied away from a bit of gold brocade.

Their collection was aimed at Millennials and even used social media stars as models. Finally Donatella Versace include several women in her men’s show – saying she wanted to show “that our two souls communicate”. Her collection comes off the back of a successful Golden Globes outing, where she dressed several celebrities, including Angelina Jolie and star of the evening, Oprah Winfrey. Additionally, Gucci had an electric retro theme, including wide shoulder pads and lots of glitter. The Fendi show featured logo totes and was opened by model Kaia Gerber, Cindy Crawford’s daughter. Many of the Prada designs featured animal motifs, including spiders, leopard and zebra prints. Both Gigi Hadid and Kaia Gerber walked in the Moschino show, ending with both models being wrapped up as floral bouquets.
