Moschino takes their fashion to another planet with their Fall 2018 line, offering the theme of Sci-fi chic. Designer Jeremy Scott took inspiration for his line from a retro conspiracy theory surrounding Jacqueline Kennedy.

The new collection offers designs that combine classic 1950 styles with popping colors and embellishments from the 1960s. One of the featured designs was a re-vamped version of the classic Jackie-O dress suit, incorporating big zippers and pull tabs common in 1960s fashion. To enhance the 1960s style aesthetic the designs featured a combination of popping color and prints. The collection also featured the bill-box hat the Kennedy often wore with her dress suits.

The story behind the conspiracy-inspired collection starts with late president, John F. Kennedy, told Marilyn Monroe that aliens existed. This story inspired Scott to create the classic fashion of Kennedy and Monroe, while offering alien models painted in various colors. Models walked the Moschino runway wearing various colors of body makeup to give the alien feel to the concept, though some models ditched the pain option for natural skin-tones.

The new collection also offers new pieces from the collaboration with illustrator Ben Frost that features illustrations of faces on iconic candy wrappers and cereal boxes. These pieces featured realistic illustrations that gave pieces more dimensions.

Scott showed his love for pop culture and all things fun, including a series of metallic cocktail dresses and outerwear. The final looks of the show included elegant evening wear the combined futuristic fabrics with a classic style including sequins and cut-outs.

Famous model sisters, Gigi and Bella Hadid, walked the runway with stunning formal gowns closing the show. The advertisement campaign for the new collection features Gigi Hadid as an alien flight attendant. There is some controversy over the ad with Scott’s choice of words for the caption when posting the picture of Hadid saying, “The only thing illegal about this alien is how good she looks!”

Scott later changed the caption and explained that his new collection represents a political statement on how the U.S. adminisrations harsh stand towards “illegal aliens.” Talk about a political fashion statement. To see the styles of the Moschino Fall 2018 collection, check out the videos above.
