Even after his passing the influence of Karl Lagerfeld’s designs has a lasting influence on the industry. The fashion world was rocked with excitement late last week when rapper and creative mastermind Pharrell Williams teased GQ France with a first looks of a namesake unisex capsule collection with Chanel.

The release date is still TBD, but that didn’t stop Pharrell from showing off a few pieces from his collection in recent interview with GQ France. Like the rapper, the capsule collection appears to be bright and fresh with shades of yellow, greens, and blues. It also looks like the Chanel’s signature round frames got a Pharrell style makeover in bright hues.

Pharrell gets candid about his personal style in the video, telling the GQ that “I don’t have a style, as much as I have some tendencies, and I have more tendencies than I have actual items.” Which might have been the inspiration for a limited release capsule collection.

Pharrell states that he was really inspired by the younger generations approach to traditional masculine and feminine fashion norms to create a unisex collection. The rapper and fashion chameleon claims that’s he’s always been infatuated with pearl necklaces and even wore them in high school.

If you’re thinking that this pairing might be a bit odd, it isn’t. Pharrell is a bonafide fashionphile and has been spotted in the front rows of Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, and Zac Posen, just to name a few. Lagerfeld is also notorious for drawing his inspiration from hip hop culture – creating one of the most iconic Chanel collections, Fall/Winter 1991 based around a hip hop theme.
