The top flops of the 2019 Met Gala
The Met Gala is one of the hottest nights of the year. Hundreds of celebs strut down the red carpet showing off their best outfits for what is quite possibly the biggest fashion show of the year. Some celebrities, however, were less than stunning and some didn’t even try.
The Met Gala is known as the biggest party on the east coast. The annual “invitation only” Gala benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Costume Institute and is known for providing the best in high fashion and celeb interaction.
This year’s Met Gala theme was Camp: Notes on Fashion. Camp isn’t synonymous with “the great outdoors”; instead, the theme is based on Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay that explicates camp as “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration.” Celebrities were to wear outlandishly bold outfits expressing their inner camp.
While celebrities such as Janelle Monáe, Harry Styles, and Lady Gaga were the hits of the night, other celebrities seem to have completely missed the theme. The Olsen Twins, Rami Malek, and even Demi Moore, just to name a few, showed up to the event in dull colorless outfits and monochromatic black jumpsuits. Not sure if they didn’t get the message, or if their camp just needed a little revamp.
