One of the this season’s biggest trends is undoubtedly the sheer trend. It was showcased on many major runways from design houses like Erdem, Balmain, Elie Saab, and Saint Laurent, to name a few, and has become an instant favorite for celebs and models alike. Alexander Wang made a big impact with his sheer paneled sweatshirt that read “PARENTAL ADVISORY” making it one of the most sought out pieces. From midi skirts to tops and even outer wear, see how you too can wear the sheer trend this season.

As a basic rule, always pair a sheer item with a hard element. By doing this you’re creating a balance between the two pieces especially if the sheer piece is lengthy or “extra” sheer. If you’re wearing a dress that is sheer at the bottom, make sure to wear a solid piece on top like a leather jacket or blazer.

It’s easy to go overboard. Although this trend is meant to be fun and a little sexy, it can easily go from sexy to a little too daring since you feel like you’re being covered from by the fabric. If you’re new to this trend, stick with one sheer piece like a sheer paneled sweater or bomber jacket and pair up accordingly.

Pick one area to expose. Think of the sheer trend as you would with a sexy dress: you either expose the top or the bottom, but never both at the same time. As mentioned before, it’s easy to overdo since it’s so cheeky but overexposing will take the fun out of the trend. It’s more of a peek-a-boo so don’t show too much.

This trend will continue to be strong for the months to come so try it out if you’re feeling a little daring. Check out the videos to see how celebs and models are wearing it now.
