Naomi Campbell Returns To The Runway

Few models have impacted the industry like Naomi Campbell. The supermodel made waves after making a surprise appearance to close Valentino Haute Couture Show in January. Late last week, Campbell posted a video on her personal YouTube channel with behind the scenes footage of the moments that made up her emotional return to the runway.

The video details Campbell’s friendship with house creative director, Pier Paolo Piccioli has he walks her through the inspiration images for the collection. Piccoli also gets emotional as he shows her the groundbreaking roster of models – a diverse cast that includes 43 black models. A fashion moment that Piccoli says would never have happened without Campbell’s influence in the industry.

Campbell’s video continues to follow her through the ceremonial pre-show prep including her makeup run through and fittings where viewers get the very first look at Valentino’s shocking pink gown worn by Gemma Chan to the Oscars.

Viewers also get a peak of what was going through Campbell’s head during her walk down the runway. The supermodel admits to getting teary-eyed looking around and seeing the beauty of the diverse cast, and getting to be a part of the historic fashion occasion.

Campbell broke many barriers down in the industry, including being the first black model to appear on the cover of French Vogue, as well as the first black model on the September issue of American Vogue. She was recently recognized by CFDA in 2018 and awarded with their prestigious Fashion Icon Award.
