Finally that time of the year has arrived when you know if those Pilates classes that you’ve been going to for the last 2 months are showing results: you’re daring to show your midriff. According to the S/S 2013 runways of Balenciaga, Chloe, and Alexander Wang, we’re praying that our upper stomach looks good because the runways of these famous designers were baring their models’ midriffs. The trend calls for 2 main forms of bearing your midsection: dresses and separate tops. Many of our favorite department stores have infinity of cropped tops, bustier type tops, and dresses with openings in that section.
Although this trend started in 2010 with the high waist skirts, it’s made a comeback this season and it seems like it’s been stronger than ever. We’ve seen fashionable celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Emma Watson, and the beautiful Kerry Washington show off their midriffs at various red carpets and looking incredibly fashionable while doing so. Many ladies may think that they can’t pull this off because they don’t have a toned midriff but we’ve got some tips on how you can rock this trend and still feel confident.
Try the Trend
We know, we know, this a hard to trend to pull off for us ladies that don’t necessarily have the best midsection but that’s alright, we’ve got you covered. If you’re not comfortable with exposing much skin, try wearing a dress that has an opening on the sides. There are some dresses that have just enough of a peek-a-boo to keep you in the loop. For those ladies that are lucky enough to bare as much as they please, try wearing the bustier cropped top with some high waist shorts for a casual look every day look or with a high waist skirt for a more dressed up version of the trend. For shoes you can opt for some ankle strap heels or the pumps . Hair and makeup up is completely up to you since the short tops come in so many different colors, styles, and materials but since it’s summer time you want to do something fun and flirty so a messy up to or a half up half down will look fine.
We think this trend is worth trying since it’s so strong this season but it’s important to remember that if it’s something you don’t think is for you, there are many other trends you can try!
