The bohemian flare that we love about the 60’s and 70’s has come back in a refreshing and modern way this season. On the S/S ‘13 runways of Saint Laurent we saw bold hippie-esque silhouettes in rich earth tone fabrics, accented with wide floppy statement hats. At the S/S ’13 Babygirl show we saw a softer more romantic take on the boho aesthetic in the form of flouncy baby doll dresses and delicate floral crown headpieces.  Rachel Zoe took a monochrome approach to the bohemian style showing white flowy maxi dresses accented with black 70’s floppy hats and fanny packs.  While there is definitely a strong tie to the past with this seasons take on the boho chic look, we are loving how the modern silhouettes and subtle polished aspects bring this trend into the now.

The boho look is rooted in fun textures and fabrics that create movement, so if you’re looking to add a touch of boho flare into your wardrobe start with free flowing dresses, skirts and even jumpsuits. In terms of prints this season’s boho look offers both bold and subtle options. Artistic watercolor prints, as seen at the S/S ’13 shows of Blumarine and Versace make the perfect bold boho statement. While earthy floral patterns and pint sized nature inspired prints make for a more understated style.

Try The Trend Tips

  • When it comes to boho inspired hair this season a middle parted, slightly wavy do is the way to go. It was one of the most popular looks at this season’s runway shows and it plays perfectly into the effortlessly chic boho vibe.

  • In terms of accessories, you need to get your hands on a wide brimmed floppy hat. Not only is it the perfect accent to a modern boho ensemble, but it can also help to shield your face from the sun’s rays on those hot days at the beach. That’s what we call fashionable and functional!
