The summer months are here and with the season, high temperatures accompany them as well. A few weeks back we wrote about the crop top and today we’re back to talk about the bralet. The bralet is basically a hybrid of a corset; it has a bra built in and is shorter than an actual corset so it gives just enough midsection coverage in case you weren’t comfortable enough to wear the crop top. The bralet made its appearance last year on the runways and was set to be big both last year and this year and is considered an essential this summer.

It initiated at the Versace and Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2012 runways and was a big hit. Charlotte Ronson and Jason wu, among other design houses also included the bralet in their S/S collections for this year. The models wore the bralet with 2 piece suits, long skirts, and long shorts. This trend, like we said before in our crop top article, is meant for you to show only a bit of skin and that’s why you see the bralet paired up with long skirts and shorts or with pant suits because wearing it with shorter articles of clothing would be too much. Many celebrities have been seeing wearing this trend that includes: Sienna Miller, Rihanna, and Selena Gomez. Keep reading for more on how to rock the trend.

Try the Bralet Trend

This particular top is a bit easier to wear than the crop top because you don’t show as much skin as it ends almost where the high-waisted bottom begins. The bralet also provides support where the crop top doesn’t because it has a bra already built so that’s one less thing to worry about. We take away from the runways that this should be paired with a conservative bottom so try pairing it up with some high-waisted shorts and a loose, lightweight tank top so that you can show the bralet off for a casual daytime look. A messy ponytail and some mirrored sunnies will complete the chic look.

For an evening look, you have a few options but we recommend either wearing it with a blazer over it and some high-waisted trousers with some ankle strap heels for a more sophisticated feel. For a more flirty evening look, pair it up with a tight midi skirt. It’ll show just enough skin and you won’t feel as exposed as opposed to wearing it with a smaller skirt. Some pointed pumps or some cute bow pumps will complete the look. In terms of hair, we think beachy waves will look fabulous and perfect for the summer.
