The high waisted shorts trend has been around for a while—a few decades now. Your mom and aunts probably have a few pictures of them back in their hay day so this trend definitely isn’t anything new. This trend has been coming back for a few summers now as it was brought back by a few different designers in 2010. Oscar de La Renta was one of the design houses to include the shorts in their Spring/Summer 2010 runways along with other designers like Jason Wu and Charlotte Ronson.

This will be the third summer that the shorts come back so we know it’s a big one. There are many celebrities that have also adopted the shorts and prefer them over low-rise and Miley Cyrus is a perfect example of this. She’s rarely ever seen with regular shorts anymore and she’s not alone. The stylish sisters Kylie and Kendal Jenner also wear them regularly and their older sister Kourtney Kardashian does as well. Keep reading for how to wear this trend.

Try the Trend

This trend can be kind of tricky to wear and doesn’t necessarily flatter every body type. Petite ladies tend to benefit more from the trend because it gives the illusion that they are taller since it shortens the mid-section so taller ladies need to make sure that the pair of shorts they wear aren’t as high up. Plus size ladies also have to take adequate measures because it can make your mid-section look bigger than it really is. To prevent this from happening, wear darker colors; the lighter the color, the more it emphasizes that body part.

Now for the actual styling part. We love the idea of wearing this with a loose tank top and a bralet underneath for a day at the shore or on the boardwalk. For something not as casual (but not exactly formal, happy hour maybe) you could try pairing it up with a designer t-shirt and your favorite summer footwear. Hair should match the event so some beachy waves will look perfect. Make sure to carry a cross body satchel to complete the look.

Hope you try this trend whilst keeping in mind your body type to achieve the best look.
