Prom dresses with sheer accents allow for a sexy siren style without having to bare any unwanted skin or risk a possible wardrobe malfunction.  Whether tulle or netting, sheer accented dresses are a super chic trend for prom this year.  Sheer clothing has been dominating the fashion world all season,  at the 2013  runways shows of Blumarine, Gianfranco Ferre and Alberta Ferretti we saw a slew of sheer accented gowns that made us swoon.  Some gowns included stunning and dramatic tulle see-through skirts. While other designers focused the see though look of on the bodice of the gown with sheer mesh paneling, sleeves or backs.  The key to making the sheer trend look prom appropriate is making sure the sheer portion of your dress isn’t too revealing, and of course that you keep your look classy and chic.

We have a few favorite ways to rock the sheer dress trend at prom this year. Our first is a sheer back dress, a dress like this gives the illusion of a backless gown without having to worry about any unwanted exposure.   Another super chic sheer dress style that has been very popular with celebrities on the red carpet this year has been the sheer-bottom fluted mermaid gown, not only is the fit of this dress curve hugging, but the sheer portion below the knees adds another element of modern style that we just adore.

Tips for Wearing a Prom Dress with Sheer Accents
If you want your prom look to be the perfect combination of sexy and sophisticated then a dress with sheer accents is the way to go, here are a few tips to keep in mind when choosing a sheer accented dress:

  • Sheer accents work well in small doses, so instead of opting for a dress with an entirely see-through bodice, go for a gown with a smaller see-though panel on the side, because sometimes less is more when it comes to the sheer trend.
  • Be mindful of dresses with sheer, tulle or chiffon, trains; they look super elegant but have a tendency to snag or rip as you walk, instead opt for a dress with a sheer skirt at the bottom. This will give you that same flowing, ethereal  effect.
