Cropped Jackets were semi popular in the 90’s and now they have come back full force at this year’s fall/winter fashion week shows. These little jackets are, just as their name would suggest, jackets that have been shortened to an area above the hip. Some cropped jackets have been shortened all the way to the bust line and some have been shortened only slightly to the waist line. Cropped jacket are dominating fall fashion this year, in fun, colorful and chic designs, but these little jacket are also making their way into some spring fashion as well. Designers like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Chloe and Christian Dior all showed some version of the cropped jacket look on the runway for the upcoming spring fashion lines. Since the cropped jacket may seem a bit daunting to some of you, here are some tips for rocking this look:

  • Be sure your cropped jacket does not cut you in half; this can sometimes be the case if a jacket is too tight across the middle of your body.  If you tend to want to cover your tummy area, opt for a cropped jacket that cuts just above the hip line. Since this type of jacket is only slightly cropped you’ll avoid the risk of drawing attention to your mid-section.
  • Pairing a moderately cropped jacket with pants will result in “the modern day suit” look. This style is great for work, but if you want to add a little more playfulness to it you could opt for a jacket with a bold pattern. Paisley, floral and geometric are all trending patterns right now that would complement a cropped jacket nicely.
  • Cropped jackets look great when layer with other pieces. Since the cropped jacket is kind of like a mini coat, it’s perfect to layer onto other items. A tunic, fitted sweater or button down shirt are all fall/winter clothes that would look great layered under a cropped jacket.
