Curling your hair can be such a hassle at times especially if you’re not exactly sure how to do it. A curling wand is great because it’s incredibly easy to use whether you want a full head of bouncy curls or just a few here and there for the beachy tousled look. The best part is that you can control what type of curl you want and just how tight you want it to be. Needless to say, it’s one of our favorite styling tools.

If you want some tips on how to use a curling wand or on how to get the best curls, follow these easy steps.

Step 1. Apply a heat protectant and blow out your hair.

Step 2. Section out the hair and secure with some clips. After you’ve done so, apply some hairspray to the section you’re going to curl. This part is important because the curls will last a lot longer as opposed to just curling them with no spray.

Step 3. Take the first section of hair and curl away from your face. Then for the next curl, curl inwards towards the face. Alternate with each curl to ensure you have the most natural looking curls.

Step 4. When you get to the top part of the head (very last pieces left uncurled at the crown), be sure to curl away from the face. The top should always curl outwards for a more modern look and to really open up the face.

Step 5. After the hair is completely curled, you might notice that it looks a bit too curly. Take some texturizing spray and apply it all over the hair to loosen the curls. To add back some extra shine, use a hair gloss or serum all over (if you’re is thin, concentrate on the ends only).

Pretty easy, right? If you want how it’s done by our friends at Birchbox, check out the video.
