Fashion designer turned face mask producer

The fashion industry is changing in big ways in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic including designer Christian Siriano. Siriano has shifted his production from fashion garments and accessories to personal protective equipment (PPE) including face masks and hospital gowns.

The state of New York wanted to thank Siriano and support the further production of PPEs. New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo, announced an aide plan in response to COVID-19 that provides $6.9 million to companies committed to making more protective equipment and Siriano was one of lucky 12 companies to be granted funding.

One of Siriano’s companies, CJ Designs, will be receiving approximately $352,000 in funding that will go towards the production of face masks for nonmedical public service employees. Governor Cuomo thanked Siriano for his efforts through the COVID-19 pandemic including investing $600,000 into this project while maintaining a 17-person staff and continuing to support New York.
