It’s almost that time of the year when the weather starts getting a little cooler and your favorite oversized sweaters start making appearances. While some girls love the sun and super-hot temperatures, we love cozying up with a comfy sweater while still looking stylish. Go big or go home, right?

If you love wearing oversized sweaters but not sure how to style them, we have a few tips that can help.

Basic rule: big on top, fitted on the bottom. This is a rule that should be kept in mind if you’re a first time oversized sweater wearer. If you wear an oversized sweater on the top, you should wear something smaller or fitted on the bottom like a mini skirt or some skinny jeans. If you’re feeling a little daring, try skinny leather pants or a tight pencil skirt.

You can wear it to work. When you think of oversized anything, casual wear usually comes to mind but it’s actually pretty easy to dress up for a formal setting. If you happen to be wearing a dress to work that looks a little too form-hugging, throw on an oversized cardigan on top. You still get to show off that amazing dress without being too inappropriate.

If it’s big enough, rock it as a dress. We’ve seen this done so many times before and both short and tall girls look equally as great in it. The sweater will be short so to be safe, wear some short shorts underneath just in case a breeze decides to show off your lacey undergarments. Also, heels may make the whole outfit look too overdone so pair it with some loafers or any kind of flats to keep it looking casual.

Break the rules: big with bigger. Working with proportions is key with anything oversized but you don’t have to follow the rules if you don’t want to. Pair a slightly oversized sweater (of thinner material, not knit) with wide-legged pants or long full skirt. You don’t want to walk around looking like a big ball of fluff so the key to this look is keeping the thickness of the fabric in mind. Thin fabric on top, fuller fabric on the bottom.

Try this fall trend when the colder months come along to keep cozy and stylish.
