So by now we’re all pretty aware that the shirt dress was (and still is) a huge trend this season. If you’re a lover of fashion blogs like us, you most likely saw Leandra Medine, The Man Repellar, last year street styling in a crisp, long shirt dress with some heels and a choker and thought, “why didn’t I think of that? It looks fabulous!” Since then shirt dressed have been popping up everywhere like mad and styled in too many ways to count.

Because we love this trend so much, we thought we’d give you a few tips on how to wear a casual look with this trend. If for whatever reason you thought you couldn’t pull this look off, let us prove you wrong.

Start off with a basic solid color. The trend calls for a crisp white color but if you’re just starting off, nude and navy blue or denim are good options. White is definitely a color that captures attention so opting for a not-so-loud color will make you feel more comfortable trying it out.

Shoes set the tone. Because the shirt dress is very basic, your shoes are going to do all the talking when it comes to what feel you’re going for. To keep it casual, a good pair of solid colored sneakers or some flats will do the trick. If you’re going for a sexier, more polished look, try some sandals.

Don’t go overboard with accessories. The shirt dress trend is made to make your life a whole lot easier by just throwing on a chic long shirt so keep it simple with the accessories. A watch or a thin necklace will do the trick as the main focal point is the shirt dress and over-accessorizing can be too much.

Don’t forget your nude undergarments. If you go for the white shirt dress, especially during the day, you’re most likely going to get a few looks if your bra is black. Go for a nude color and seamless for both top and bottoms so you can avoid getting a ticket from the fashion police (we’re looking at you, Joan Rivers).
