Goodbye year of the pig, hello year of the rat

Last year designers celebrated the year of the pig with capsule collections celebrating the barn animal in many forms. 2020 is the year of the rat and the biggest one of all is celebrating with designers, none other than Mickey Mouse himself.

Last year Gucci celebrated the year of the pig with a collection featuring the three little pigs from the Disney classic and this year have a collection featuring the big man Mickey Mouse. The collection was released on Jan. 3 with items ranging from a silk neck bow to a reversible coat.

Etro is celebrating 2020 with a collection featuring the classic cartoon character mouse Jerry from the Warner Bros. classic “Tom & Jerry.” This unisex collection has everything from socks to handbags with their infamous paisley print.

Moschino is celebrating Mickey Mouse with a twist, featuring the parodied Mickey Mouse cartoon created by Robert Armstong called Mickey Rat. True to the Moschino street style aesthetic, they feature a more edgy character with streetwear designs.

The sheepskin boot brand UGG is even embracing the year of the rat with boots, moccasins, and backpack with ears and whiskers. They will be releasing their collection on Jan. 17 ranging from prices $140 to $160.

On Jan. 8 Off-White released a limited-edition collection celebrating the year of the rat for the men’s and women’s line including leather goods, T-shirts, backpacks, hoodies, and bucket hats. The limited-edition design features peach flowers and a rat face with the phrase “Good Luck.”
