Billie Porter Does It Again On The Red Carpet
There are many ways to protest something that you don’t agree with. Some take to the streets with signs, some gather and share a moment of silence or a peaceful staging, while others riot and create anarchy. If you’re Billy Porter, you dress the part and let your clothing make the statement for you.
Billy Porter is known for his show-stopping outfits and fashion on the red carpet. This year, at the annual Tony Awards his outfit was designed to make a statement about the current political state of the US.
Porter says, “Representation matters. Visibility matters. These complicated conversations can exist in a way that is fun and artful.” Where better to make a theatrical statement on the red carpet than in front of hundreds of Broadway actors and actresses at the Tony Awards.
The outfit- a fun and creative gown, designed by Celestino Couture modeled after a uterus. The pink and red gown was made from a curtain that was in the hit Broadway musical, “Kinky Boots”. The goal of the outfit was to bring light, his feelings on the administration and on women’s rights in America today.
