The Vanderbilt Is Mourning The Loss Of Gloria
It’s always saddening when an American Icon passes away. But it is even more heartbreaking when the icon is none other than the illustrious Gloria Vanderbilt.
Gloria Vanderbilt was born in February 1924 in New York City to a wealthy family. As the “poor little rich girl,” her childhood was troubled and caused her much distress growing up in the shadows of her youth. During her life, she was an artist, an actress, and a stunning socialite. But her most notable role was that of fashion designer.
Jeans- something so simple launched Gloria Vanderbilt into the fashion world and created her iconic empire. In 1978, Gloria Vanderbilt collaborated with Mohan Murjani to launch her designer jeans brand. Widely recognized by her signature white swan, today, her denim empire is worth well over $100 million.
At the age of 95, Gloria Vanderbilt succumbed to her battle with cancer leaving behind a lifelong role as a mother, artist, and fashion icon. Her son, news anchor Anderson Cooper, had this to say about her: “Gloria Vanderbilt was an extraordinary woman, who loved life, and lived it on her own terms. She was 95 years old, but ask anyone close to her, and they’d tell you, she was the youngest person they knew, the coolest, and most modern.”
