Matthew Williams will be taking on the role as Givenchy’s creative director

Givenchy named Matthew Williams (founder of 1017 ALYX 9SM) as their new creative director, replacing Claire Waight Keller after holding the helm of the French fashion brand for three years. Williams will be taking control of Givenchy’s social media and concepts for upcoming collections.

Williams reveals that this achievement is a lifelong dream but it’s surreal that it’s happening during this time of crisis surrounding the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The fashion industry is facing a new challenge that can shift how brands operate for the foreseeable future.

Williams is taking on this crucial role during a crucial time for fashion but has a long resume. Willams is known for founding his label 1017 ALYX 9SM while also collaborating with celebrities and designers including Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Virgil Abloh, Alexander McQueen, and Heron Preston.

Willams has some big shoes to fill following his predecessor and first female creative director of Givenchy, Claire Waight Keller, who was known for dressing royalty including Meghan Markle. Williams is known for designing some of the must-have accessories that will boost any brand and Givenchy is betting on Williams for innovative collections.
