Moschino tell Milan Fashion Week to let them eat cake

Moschino brought the 80s to the runway, the 1780s that it. The collection was a clever combination of Moschino’s trademark edgy designs with inspiration from the Baroque Era and the queen of cake herself, Marie Antoinette.

The infamous French queen that was responsible for the financial collapse of France in the 16th century was known for saying that the starving French population should “let them eat cake” and Jeremy Scott drew inspiration from Antoinette’s infamous quote.

The collection consisted mostly of abstract-form dresses including some that looked exactly like a multi-tier cake. The main inspiration is based on the Baroque Era combined with styles popular from the 1960s, combining ball gowns and the iconic mini skirt. They also incorporated the traditional biker style Moschino is known for with a belted leather jacket for several of the looks.

The supermodel sister duo, Gigi and Bella Hadid, walked the show and wore the most notable styles in the collection. Gigi rocked a wide miniskirt dress that looked like a shortened version of a golden Baroque style gown with a leather jacket embellished with golden brocade details and black lace-up thigh-high boots. Bella rocked a similar miniskirt version of a Baroque gown with pink shimmering fabric with white trim to match her thigh-high white boots.

Another notable design from the collection includes the pink leather wide miniskirt dress styled after Baroque gown that looks like a giant pink belted-leather jacket with pink lace-up satin thigh-high platform heel boots.

The Hadid sisters weren’t the only celebrity models to walk the runway. Kaia Gerber walked the runway in a pastel blue and white whimsical print in a structured mini dress inspired by the Baroque style gown.

All the models rocked over-the-top hair-dos that Marie Antoinette was well known for with some hairstyles over a foot tall. Moschino didn’t only work their magic through the collection but they managed to bring Versailles to Milan, channeling the decor style after the infamous Hall of Mirrors with a mirrored runway and exquisite chandeliers above the runway. They also featured the soundtrack from the Sophia Capolla film “Marie Antoinette” to bring the whole theme together perfectly.
