Online Retail Is Coming For Brick And Mortar Stores
For years, the retail landscape has been changing. Online shops are popping up more than ever. Small businesses are moving to the forefront.
We look to creatives, like those on Etsy, to help us find unique goods and services. Stores we grew up shopping in, like Sears, Payless, and Gap, are closing high numbers of stores, and many of them are focusing on online sales.
While brick and mortars have been the go-to since the popularity of malls skyrocketing beginning in the ’50s. We are seeing a change in how consumers hope to purchase their goods and services.
And that is exactly why, for the first time in the United States (and we’re sure it won’t be the last), online shopping sales are higher than those of retail stores. This occurred in February 2019, and Amazon’s online shopping made up a whopping 11.813 percent of total U.S. sales.
This is compared to physical stores, making up only 11.807 percent of total sales in the U.S. For overall sales, automobile and parts dealers are still leading the way, but online retail growth is undeniable.
