High fashion has always been a catchphrase, but what about sustainable fashion? Sustainable fashion has slowly become more mainstream and has flourished into an entire industry. It used to be known as ‘hippy fashion,’ and as one can imagine, it’s an industry full of cute and fashionable wears. Not only are these wearables cute and trendy, they are good or the planet.

There are some pretty big name companies that have jumped into the sustainable fashion market, including the likes of Michael Kors, Stella McCartney, H&M and Timberland. Timberland has gone above and beyond to ensure that their products are good for sales but also environmentally friendly. The company recently partnered with Thread to collect bottles from beaches in Haiti to create boots. The bottles actually make up the upper canvas of these particular boots, and they look so cute!

Essentially, the bottles were shredded into flakes and pieces to create a mixture that could be spun into a polyester-like fabric. Though the process is more expensive than buying fabric from a distributor, which is usual for most companies, Timberland reps have said they understand it will promote sustainability and benefit the earth so it’s worth the extra cost. Timberland also creates backpacks using recycled plastic.
