At the Milan Fashion Week, designers came out with their A game. At the Prada show, models walked with only the Milan cityscape as a background with large neon Prada signs, a flaming heeled shoe, a monkey, bananas, a dinosaur, which were all past Prada motifs as part of the décor. The models were dressed in a plethora of different styles, including tweed skirts, large bows made of tulle, and the use of bright fluorescent colors. The Gucci show was set in an operating room, including large fluorescent lights suspended from the ceiling.
The operating table was symbolic of where the designer cuts and sews his creations. One model was even holding a baby dragon! Moschino models wore designs that were likened to a1960’s flight attendant. Many of the outfits looked like they were pulled from the closet of Jackie Kennedy Onassis. Even the hairstyles brought you back in time. Versace came out with a collection called The Clans of Versace. The clans were separated by the type of print, as well as the style of footwear.
Silvia Venturi Fendi described the Fendi collection as “a romantic uniform for a strong and powerful woman of today.” Karl Lagerfeld had a lot of white collars and silk neckerchiefs that he said were from his boyhood where he “thought it was the top of luxury to have clean, white cotton sheets.” Ferragamo had the fresh new ideas of two young designers who added to the collection.
