Ruffles are often thought of as an overly girly accent, but this year ruffles are getting a sophisticated makeover. Ruffles are becoming more delicate, glamorous and bold looking. We saw ruffle up and down the Paris fashion week runways and one thing is for sure, ruffles aren’t just for little girls anymore. We saw ruffles on dramatic high-lo skirts a la Balenciaga. We also saw ruffles in soft pastel colors similar to the frocks seen on the Chloe spring runways. At Gucci’s catwalk we noticed a slew of ruffled neckline and sleeves. This year the ruffled look is about strategic placement, feminine detail and a statement making “wow” factor.  Below are our top three ways to wear ruffles.

Singularly Ruffled Blouse

We love the look of a chic blouse that has one single ruffle across the bust line. This is a great way to subtly enhance the look of your assets without going for the “cleavage in your face” look.  For work pair this blouse with a fitted pencil skirt and classic pumps. For play, pair this skirt with body hugging skinny jeans are sexy strappy heeled sandals.

Ruffle Hem Skit

Many ladies think that ruffles on a skirt will make them look too bottom heavy, and this is true in some cases. In order to avoid that try wearing a skirt that only has ruffles along the hem, while the rest of the skirt is fitted. This is a great way to get that ruffle flare without risking added bulk on your bottom.

Off The Shoulder Ruffle

Talk about “wow” factor, an off the shoulder ruffle dress is chic and statement making. We have seen this particular silhouette at the fashion week runways and all over the red carpet. We recommend rocking a frock like this in a subtle color, like peach or blush. Because the off the shoulder ruffle is such an eye catching accent you want to make sure the color of the dress doesn’t complete with it.
