French actress Catherine Deneuve is auctioning off her treasure trove filled with original Yves Saint Laurent items at the Christie’s online auction.
Deneuve’s relationship with Saint Laurent started way back, in 1965. As the story goes, the French actress consulted the young couturier Yves Saint Laurent for an outfit before meeting with Queen Elizabeth II. Their first meeting turned out to be pretty magical for the two, starting a 40-year business and friendship relationship between the two.
Recently though, Deneuve decided to sell her massive Normandy estate, meaning she no longer had any space to store her extensive collection of YSL items. Her 330-piece collection is now displayed at the auction house on Avenue Matignon.
Majority of the pieces consists of her personal collection, not exactly the dresses and items that she wore for her best-selling films. Still, each item has been highlighted in various events that the actress has attended over the decades, making each one an important part of history for both Deneuve and Saint Laurent.
The online auction will begin on Wednesday, January 23, while the in-person auction at 9 Avenue Montaigne, Paris, will begin at 14:30 on Thursday, January 24.
