Sports Illustrated Featured Their First Model To Wear A Birkini And Hijab

Sports Illustrated has long been known for its sexy magazine covers and swimsuit addition. It generally hosts popular models on the cover, complete with string bikinis and sexy poses. But this year, Sports Illustrated stepped up their game when they shared a beautiful photo of Halima Aden wearing her hijab and burkini on the cover.

Halima Aden is an American fashion model and practicing Muslim. She competed in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant, becoming the pageant’s first hijab and burkini-wearing contestant. She signed with IMG Models in 2017 and walked in New York Fashion Week’s Yeezy Season 5 show.

She has also served as a preliminary and telecast judge of the Miss USA 2017 pageant. She has continued to change the landscape for magazine covers, as she has also been the first hijab and bikini-wearing model on magazines such as Vogue Arabia, British Vogue, and Allure,

Sports Illustrated released it’s the first-ever cover of Aden in her hijab, displaying their efforts to include more diversity on their magazine, varying from its typical format to follow the ever-changing landscape to promote diversity and culture. Halima is the magazine’s first Muslim model to wear a hijab and burkini in its history.
