When it comes to faux hawks, most of us think that it’s too complicated and takes a ton of effort to style. After all, the hair has to be smack in the middle of the head and then the left over hair has to be set into place because otherwise it just falls over. But if you have curly hair, consider yourself lucky because creating a faux hawk on your curly tresses is a whole lot easier.

If you want to try an edgy hairstyle on your curly hair, give this hair tutorial a try!

What you’ll need:

Bobby pins (the big kind)
Hair spray
A brush

Now follow these steps:

Step 1: Start with completely dry hair. You can apply some styling cream or serum to define curls and tame frizz if you’d like.

Step 2: Spray some hairspray on the brush and begin to comb the sides of the hair towards the middle. You’ll start brushing the hair starting at the temple area and when you get to the middle of the head, pin down the section with a bobby pin to keep it in place. Repeat this step until you get down to the nape.

Step 3: Repeat step 2 with the other side of the head.

Step 4: If the loose curls that are in the middle of your head are too long, you can pin them down with some bobby pins, especially with the back part of the faux hawk. Play around with the loose ends until you get your faux hawk to look exactly how you want it to.

Step 5: Finish with hairspray.
