Christian Dior tells the future with couture collection

Paris Couture Fashion week traditionally hosts runway shows but some brands are considering intimate showcases including the legendary Franch fashion house Christian Dior. Instead of hosting a runway event for the collection Christian Dior decided to feature a showcase film, Le Château Du Tarot.

The short film brings haute couture style from the runway into a magical fairytale with styles inspired by figures depicted on tarot cards. This is a unique showcase was created by the Italian creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri.

The designs were heavily influenced by 15th-century medieval tarot cards that is a recurring motif of Dior that started with the superstitious late founder. The short film was directed by Italian filmmaker Matteo Garrone for a dark yet romantic fairytale featuring whimsical yet regal designs.

Chiuri’s traditional design influence of cinched waists was incorporated into the new collection and regal capes including one completely adorned with flowers created with feathers. The collection was also inspired by astrological signs represented by models in the short film.

The short film is comparable to a Cirque du Soleil performance mixed with classical ballet opera featuring beautiful fashion and dynamic characters. The showcase film also features some high fashion inspiration for hair and makeup beauty.
