Nope, your eyes are not deceiving you, we are indeed calling out the fanny pack as a chic trend this season. Now before you think we’ve lost our fashionable marbles, let us just say that celebrity style icons like Sarah Jessica Parker, Rachel Zoe and Rihanna have all been spotted rocking this season’s very chic version of the fanny pack.  While the original fanny pack make its first appearance on the fashion scene in Australia in the 60’s it has traveled through time and emerged this year on the 2013 runways of style houses like DKNY and Lacoste.  Ladies we know it’s probably a hard pill to shallow, but once you get your hands on one of this season’s hottest fanny packs you’ll understand why this little accessory has made a comeback as a very chic trend.

Although the former fanny packs of the 80’s and 90’s probably went perfectly with mom jeans or cotton track suits, this season’s fanny packs are edgy, chic and being paired with stellar high fashion items. We’ve seen bold leather fanny packs paired with everything from crisp printed cigarette trousers to chic designer t-shirts and even swimwear. Rachel Zoe showed chic little fanny packs paired with monochrome black and white maxi dresses, statement striped pastel hued jumpsuits and delicate pale pink shirt dresses. In a somewhat refreshing twist Lacoste took a totally different approach to this trend by opting  for the classic, slouchy style fanny packs as opposed to the structured leather looks  we’re used to seeing this season. The fanny pack is somewhat of a style must-have this season, so we suggest you get your hands on one ASAP.

Try The Trend Tips
Below you’ll find a few tips to help keep you looking as chic as can be:

  • The fanny pack looks great with blousy pieces like flowy maxi dresses or sheer free flowing button down tops.
  • Fanny packs look great with masculine and androgynous looks, so go for dark unisex hues with masculine overtones like buttons and collars. Just be sure to brighten this look up with your makeup, try opting for either a pink pout or aqua eyeliner.
