The old saying that goes “beauty starts from within” is actually a fact; whatever you eat and drink is eventually reflected on your skin. Food has the power to either make your health be at its best or worst and the same goes for your skin condition. Carb and sugar levels from refined foods tend to make you age quicker and consequently tend to be the tastiest of all making them the hardest to resist. Luckily there are foods that are tasty, natural, and are great for your skin.

If you’re guessing that junk food is the first on our list than you are correct. Junk food like chips and other fried snacks are high in trans-fat and sodium are bad for your skin but bad for overall health making them the first group of foods you should avoid.

It’s hard to resist a delicious cupcake or crème brûlée after dinner but the high sugar levels in desserts can actually block collagen production causing your skin to age quicker. This happens because sugar blocks collagen levels that give your skin that bouncy, young appearance. Next time you’re at dinner and have a sweet tooth opt for a dessert that is mostly made of sweet fruits that will satisfy your craving.

If you want to fight the signs of premature aging, eat fruits that are packed with antioxidants like blueberries and blood oranges. Both have really high levels of antioxidants to fight free radicals that produce wrinkles. Dark chocolate is also an option if eaten in moderation as it is a good source of flavonoids. It helps that it’s delicious as well!
