Victoria Beckham (OBE) further proved her status as a fashion icon as she collected the Fashion Icon Award at the People’s Choice Awards at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica. The 44-year old fashion designer has surely come a long way from when she had a guest appearance on the catwalk for Maria Grachvogel in February 2000, her debut as a model.
After acting as a runway model for the second time in January 2006, she acted as a fashion editor for her friend and then launched her own denim model in September 2006. Speaking at the event, she remarked: “So many years ago, I started with girl power, and now that message is just as strong as ever but now it’s through the privilege of being able to empower women through my designs.”
Beckham launched her self-named label in 2008 and it grew into a fixture of New York Fashion Week by 2011. Her collection is hugely appealing and has been featured on the New York Fashion Week. In September, Beckham released her 10th Anniversary Collection, a limited-edition capsule in celebration of the brand’s important achievement.
Her fashion brand has offices in different countries and has won multiple awards like the Best Designer Brand and Brand of the Year at the British Fashion Awards. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of her fashion label, Beckham acknowledged the fast growth rate of the brand, she remarked: “I get more nervous every season, not less nervous because the brand keeps getting bigger.”
Beckham has moved from starring as a runway model to co-owning a prominent fashion brand with her husband – David Beckham.
