There’s a trend that has been taking the beauty world by storm: the bb cream. It’s our duty to bring to you the hottest trends and this past year the beauty world has been loving bb creams. So what’s a bb cream you may ask? Although you might be able to point it out at your local beauty store, it may be confusing to give an accurate answer. BB creams stand for “beauty balm” or “blemish balm” and are an all-in-one product that is meant to moisturize, protect, and have skincare benefits such as wrinkle improvement or pigmentation correction.

It was originated in Germany to treat patients with scarring after surgery but really exploded in Korea. Korea has been benefiting from BB cream for many years and their secret is finally out. Many different makeup brands have been coming out with their own version of a bb cream from high-end brands like Dior and Chanel to ones sold on the high street like Maybelline and L’Oreal. This product is a lifesaver for those women who want beauty on the go and don’t have much time to apply moisturizer, SPF, and foundation separately. This product is a must for those who love the natural look but are short on time. Keep reading for more on this product.

Try the BB

Dry Skin
Dry skins will benefit greatly from this product as the original BB creams straight from Korea are super rich and moisturizing. Brands like Skin79 have BB creams that are meant for drier skins and will also have anti-wrinkle benefits since people with dry skin are more prone to wrinkles because of the lack natural oils their faces produce. Dior makes a fabulous BB cream called “Hydra Life” which says it all in its name. Avoid matte BB creams since they will emphasize your dry spots and wrinkles if you have any.

Oily Skin
BB creams tend to be moisturizing so finding a BB that isn’t dewy can be tricky. Too Faced cosmetics makes a great BB that’s semi-matte but looks dewy because of the tiny reflective particles it has makes your skin look radiant without feeling or looking oily. Another great one on the high-street is the Magic Skin Beautifier BB by L’Oreal. It comes out white straight from the tube but adapts to your skin color as you blend.

Dark Skin
We’re very content that more and more makers of BB creams are coming out with darker shades for our beautiful darker skinned ladies. This was a very big concern when BB creams came to Western countries because in Korea and many other Asian countries, people tend to be on the lighter side so they never saw a reason for making more shades to sell. IMAN makes BB creams in various dark shades so many ladies that weren’t able to buy BB’s before will greatly benefit from this makeup line. Maybelline and Smashbox have also come out with darker shades but they’re very limited so we recommend testing IMAN before the latters.

BB creams nowadays are made with many different ingredients to target whatever face concern you may have whether its wrinkle improvement, skin evening, pigmentation lightening, or anti-aging. We would like to add that BB cream looks the best when you have applied your own moisturizer underneath for that perfect natural glow. It’s best applied with fingers because the warmth of your fingers will help it melt onto your own skin therefore it looking like your own skin. It’s not meant to take the place of a full coverage foundation so treat it as one; adding many layers will look cakey. Instead, apply a thin layer or two and cover your problem areas with concealer.

We hope you found this helpful for your BB cream application and if you haven’t gotten on the bandwagon, we recommend you do!
