Sweet, delicate scalloped shorts have been around for a while, as mentioned in our previous lace shorts article, however recently we’ve seen this look on celebrities in some new, surprising and refreshing ways. This season scalloped shorts are taking on quite a few different incarnations, when this trend first came out it was all about lace and eyelet scalloped shorts. But recently we’ve seen edgy leather scalloped shorts, adorable scalloped short suits and an array of different denim scalloped shorts as well. One of the best things about this trend is that it can be dressed up or down to suit any summertime destination. You can pair your scalloped shorts with a bikini and chic sun hat for a day at the beach or add in a pair of elegant ankle strap heels and a chic blouse for a sexy summer night date.  Of course, as with any trend, there are a million ways to wear scalloped shorts, but we’ve narrowed it down to our top three.

Basic Black Scalloped Shorts
Just because its black doesn’t mean it has to be boring, when it comes to these shorts in black play with texture for a little added style. Look for sleek black leather scalloped shorts, ladylike lace scalloped shorts or even ultra-elegant Great Gatsby style sequin scalloped shorts.  Since black is such a simple color to work into your wardrobe you’ll surly get a lot of wear time out of a pair of black scalloped shorts this summer.

The Scalloped Short Suit
We were already loving short suits this season and the addition of the scalloped shorts just makes us love this look even more.  Short suits in fun colors are all the rage right now so go ahead and opt for bright colors like electric blue, bubblegum pink and sunny yellow. Just be sure to anchor your brightly color scalloped short suit with a complementing neutral toned top underneath.

Free Flowing Scalloped Shorts
The über stylish Chloë Sevigny has done a fantastic job of showcasing this ethereal look on several different occasions, opting for flowy scalloped shorts on the red carpets and on the streets. The added movement of the fabric gives the scalloped shorts an almost aquatic feeling that we love. Just be sure not to go for a pair of flowing scalloped shorts that are any lower that your mid-thigh, because then you may be crossing over into coolots territory.
