The time has come again to feast our fashionable eyes on the cream of the crop and the best that the fashion world has to offer…that’s right New York Fashion Week is in full swing, showcasing all of the hottest chic trends for spring 2014. We’re sure all of you Chicistas out there have been glued to the coverage of fashion week, just like us.  But in case real life got in the way of you drooling over your favorite creations on the catwalk, we’ve got your scoop on some of the standout shows thus far.

Tasashi Shoji stated that the inspiration for his collect, which featured ethereal beauty and femininity accented with fresh textures and patterns, was “A liberating flight.”.

In terms of color we saw plenty of pastels like mint green, lavender, salmon pink and subtle yellows.

However we also got a dose of darker hues like black, charcoal and even neutrals like camel. Tadashi Shoji choose to accent many of his looks with sheer accents whether in the form of sheer sleeves, sheer shirts, dresses, skirt and stunning sheer chiffon bottom gowns.

The designer used an array of different accents including tassels, feathers, sequins and floral appliques.  These appliques were the perfect addition to dresses that were otherwise classically cut, think box pleated maxi skirts as well as mid-calf length full and fitted dresses (very 1950’s housewife silhouettes). We also loved the designers’ use of tartan in not only cocktail dresses but full length floor sweeping gowns as well. The models looked ever chic strutting down the runway with slightly side parted bedhead style waves in their hair and bright blushing cheeks.  We are loving this collections combination of sexy sheer accents, soft sweet colors and eye catching touches!

The theme here was definitely functional relaxed silhouettes, and we were really wowed by the collect in which the designer said his inspiration was the “Intersection of form and function.”.

The prints in this collection we’re  perfection with subtle spring floral accented classic black trousers, dresses and crop tops, and also very chic watercolor printed cocktail dresses and flowing gowns. The models were sporting ultra-fresh faced makeup and the occasion set of black thick rimmed glasses.

Inter mixed with the ultra-feminine and wispy silhouettes, like drop waist chiffon maxi dresses and flouncy flirty belted frocks we noted some masculine touches like the double breasted camel trench dress as well as the use of structured cropped jackets and architectural tops.  There we’re a few standouts at the BCBGMaxAzria show, one of our favorites being the floral watercolor print column maxi dress and well as the stunning black chiffon sheer accented finale gown.

At Richard Chai’s Spring 2014 show we saw a love for layers, fantastic bright white set against pops of red, some sleek and chic monochrome black and white linear patterns as well as edgy moto jackets in both black and white.

One of our favorite looks that we need to touch on was the layered red tunic dress over blue relaxed trouser with a bright red rose pattern.  This unexpected combination was one of the highlights of the collection in terms of how to layer during spring.  Once again we saw very ladylike and sophisticated silhouettes adorned with subtly sexy sheer accents.

Also, along with the bright whites we  saw plenty of black on black looks as well as dresses and outfits adorned with hints of deep purple metallic fabric.  Another one of our favorite looks off this runway was the white moto jacket layered over a red striped collared shirt paired with a flowing solid colored midi skirt. We loved all of the wearable separates within this collection as well as the bright bold use of colors and prints.

Stay tuned for another Fashion Week highlights reports coming next week!
