Red carpet glam straight from the Grammys red carpet
The anything goes quality of the Grammy Awards is one of the main reasons we look forward to the music industry’s most prestigious celebratory night of the year. While vying for that adorable little retro golden gramophone, artists are expected to bring it when it comes to their red carpet and stage looks and perform as much via their stylistic choice as with their musical abilities.
As fun as the final result may appear, the Grammys’ red carpet is perhaps the hardest one to do right, with the line between wowing, hitting the fashion sweet spot and staying true to one’s own personal vibe is almost invisible. Thankfully, between the way-out-theres and the yawners who just couldn’t crack it, there are always those who manage to nail it and this year, here are our top picks.
Billie Eilish
Not only did she pull off a complete sweep at the ceremony by winning all four major categories (Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best New Artist and Album of the Year – sheesh!), Eilish also won the style game – hard! She stuck it with the choices that we’re used to, in terms of shape and coloring, but for this history-making night, the full-on glitzy Gucci ensemble, topped off with a nail job to die for, is exactly what we needed.
Gwen Stefani
Wearing a Dolce & Gabbana super hot, super flattering and mega sexy dress is not something we’re surprised about when it comes to Stafani’s impeccable red carpet legacy. What’s super fresh about this year’s appearance is that the bridal-looking dress was embroidered with tiny shells that, the singer noted, her beau Blake Shelton (clever!) had been collecting since the lovebirds met. True or not, the look is a winner on many-a-level.
Ariana Grande
Grande lived up to her name – quite literally – pulling out all the stops with the custom Giambattista Valli number that quite literally shut down the red carpet. All eyes were rightfully on Ari’s enormous, fantasy, princess-y grayish ombre dress that she wore exquisitely. Paired with her signature ponytail and the sultry cat-eye, the overall impression was stunning and on point.
Lizzo
Perhaps a surprisingly subdued look for Lizzo, her choice for Grammy Awards 2020, which mark the first time that she’d been nominated, was in fact perfection. The glamorous look of white-on-white, lead by a strapless Versace gown, Lorraine Schwartz jewels and a furry shawl draped around her forearms, oozed timeless elegance vibes.
While many were quick to compare the look for a similar style sported by Britney Spears at the same red carpet, exactly 20 years ago, Lizzo’s stylist Marko Monroe told WWD that he reached for the glam of Marlene Dietrich, Madonna, and Whitney Houston for inspo, giving Lizzo a stunning siren appearance that we haven’t seen before, but really dig and appreciate.
